From Disney Vacation Club’s website, “Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc.” This amount of points may already be what you’re considering. If not, it might feel like you need to spend more on direct points in order to be eligible to save money with discounts when it applies. Wait, what?
Yes, this is the kind of consideration some people do when it comes to deciding between buying DVC resale or direct. There are perks that are only for direct owners with a valid blue card and while they might seem tempting they might not really be worth the extra cost of buying direct. Especially when you can see the savings upfront on a resale DVC contract.
Something else to consider. In the Important Information about Membership Extras fine print on DVC’s website it says, ‘These incidental benefits are subject to change or termination without notice, may require the payment of a fee and cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions.’
Other Membership Extras like special events or member cruises might be something to think about if those are really important for you to have. However, when it comes to getting the best financial value you can, look at the numbers closely. Saving thousands of dollars up front is certainly better than the chance to potentially save 10% on meals or $5 on special event tickets with no guarantee. Disney has also demonstrated that, even if there is a DVC discount on certain kinds of Annual Passes, sales of these tickets can be paused at any time.
