You can buy and sell DVC at any of the home resorts including the original, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, pictured here. Newer resorts are much less common on the resale market the first few years they are around. Disney Vacation Club debuted in 1991 and now has more than fifteen resorts.

What is resale DVC or DVC resale?

It can be referred to a few different ways but they all mean the same thing. Resale DVC, or DVC resale, is a contract sold by a Member, not Disney Vacation Club directly. Disney does not have a resale department. There are outside companies that exist, including DVC Resale Experts, that provide services to those who want to buy and sell DVC resale. These contracts can cost much less than those sold by Disney.

You will probably be able to find any contract you want with resale. There are some rare DVC resale market contracts. It’s also less common to see the newer DVC resorts on the resale market until a few years have passed. With DVC resale you are able to buy smaller point values. When buying from Disney directly you must purchase a 100 point minimum. There are some differences in resale and direct when it comes to booking flexibility and perks.

You can buy DVC resale at the most popular home resorts like Disney’s Beach Club Villas. It’s possible to pay greatly reduced rates with resale compared to buying direct. When you buy DVC resale, it’s simply buying from a Member instead of Disney. With the help of a real estate professional like DVC Resale Experts, you can expect to be guided through the process.

DVC Resale Restrictions

If you’re planning to buy DVC using the resale route, you will want to look over the resale restrictions first. DVC directly from Disney and resale DVC work mostly the same. However, resale does not come with the extras perks that buying from Disney can.

Those who purchase a minimum of 150 points from Disney directly have access to special events, Member spaces and discounts. Those who purchase less than 150 points from Disney or any amount of resale points do not.

DVC and resale may also be different when it comes to booking at other resorts. Some resorts have booking restrictions while others are less restrictive. It depends on when the resort was built. Disney’s Riviera Resort is the one that changed it all. When Riviera opened, it was the first resort to operate under these new rules.

Buy DVC Resale at One of the Original 14 DVC Resorts for More Flexibility

The original 14 DVC resorts operate under a separate set of rules with resale than those that opened in 2019 or later. If staying at different resorts is part of the excitement of DVC for you, you will want to choose your home resort carefully. This is not important if you want to buy DVC at your favorite resort and only stay there.

Let’s say you buy a large contract at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. You like to stay there during the holidays to enjoy the resort’s gingerbread display and to be close to Magic Kingdom’s enchanting decorations. However, you’d like to stay at one of the Epcot area resorts during the food and wine festival using the rest of your points. You would not be able to book at Riviera but would be able to book at Beach Club or BoardWalk based on availability.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of the original fourteen DVC resorts. The new tower being added to the resort is part of the existing home resort. It’s considered an expansion and not a new DVC offering. In this case, you can buy DVC resale and stay in brand new accommodations. This recently happened at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, too. However, when The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort open, those will be considered a new home resort and resale DVC Members can not use their points for stays there.
