So much has gotten back to normal at Walt Disney World Resort after reopening. It’s taken years but we can finally visit, see and eat many of our favorites again. Disney Vacation Club Members were thrilled to hear the exclusive Top of the World Lounge reopened in the summer of 2022. However, with the reopening came some changes.
Can DVC Resale Use Top of the World Lounge?
Top of the World Lounge is a private Disney Vacation Club Member space with an awesome menu and amazing firework views. Unfortunately, Top of the World Lounge is now reserved for those who are eligible for Membership Extras. This means those who purchase resale DVC alone can no longer visit Top of the World Lounge. This change occurred as of the reopening of the space. Before the 2020 closure of Walt Disney World Resort, DVC resale Members were able to enjoy this special perk. It’s a bummer for those with resale who care about being able to visit. Requirements to enter this venue have changed and changed again over the years. There’s always a possibility DVC resale owners could be given access again but at this time, they are not eligible to visit.
If you’re interested in becoming a Member, there is a way to get the best of both worlds. I mean the resale and direct worlds. With resale, which is simply buying a contract from a Member instead of Disney directly, it’s possible to save thousands of dollars. Often the prices are surprisingly good! With direct from Disney contracts of 150 points or more, Members are eligible for a set of exclusive additional perks from DVC. Note that the number of direct points needed to qualify for all Membership Extras has changed over time as well and could go up again in the future. These special perks include DVC discounts, complimentary or paid special Member events and access to private spaces like Top of the World Lounge. If you’re not yet a Member, this next detail is important to know. If you plan to purchase more than 150 points, you can buy the rest on the resale market and save on that portion of your Membership. The first 150 point contract from Disney will make you eligible for the blue Disney Vacation Club Membership Card and the perks that come with it. Any other points you want to purchase can be resale, you can pay much lower prices in most cases, and you still have your full blue card status. It’s something to think about.
If you already qualify for annual pass, Disney Visa or other discounts, DVC discounts may not be important to you. Member events may not match up with your trips and do sell out. You might not even have time to visit Top of the World Lounge with all of the dining reservations you book. In cases like these, the amount you can save with resale DVC might prove to be more valuable. Everyone’s preferences and wishes are different. It’s good to know how things work and know your options so you can make the right choice for your needs and live your best vacation life.
