The Disney timeshare is different than other timeshares in many ways. One standout is that the price of Disney Vacation Club continues to rise over time and that DVC has a great resale value. That’s not usually common in timeshare values. Even while maintaining a decent value for sellers, or rising in value in some longer cases, resale DVC is still a great buy, often costing thousands less than buying directly from Disney. But can you negotiate DVC prices?
Can You Negotiate DVC Prices?
There are really two different questions here when you consider how different it is to buy Disney Vacation Club from Disney compared to buying on the resale market. Aside from the upfront savings you already get with resale DVC, you’re likely working with a seller through a licensed real estate broker instead of Disney Vacation Club itself.
Can you negotiate DVC prices when buying directly from Disney?
Unfortunately, no, you can not negotiate DVC prices when buying direct from Disney. Disney Vacation Club has a strict per point price set for each resort. As of the time this post was written, the lowest price for DVC at Walt Disney World Resort was Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge for $190 per point. Then there are a few resorts at $200 per point like Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. If you are interested in a resort Disney is actively selling, those prices are displayed on the Disney Vacation Club website. It’s currently $207 per point for Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and Disney’s Riviera Resort. Though prices at other ‘sold out’ resorts are not clearly displayed, they are sometimes available for purchase but rates are not negotiable with Disney.
Other fees associated with buying a Disney Vacation Club Membership, such as closing costs, are not able to be negotiated either as they fixed based on the price and state the home resort is located in.
While Disney Vacation Club does not negotiate there are occasionally specials that bring the price down slightly. When compared to resale DVC, the savings.. don’t compare.
Can you negotiate DVC prices when buying resale DVC?
Yes, you can negotiate prices when buying resale DVC. If you take a look the the resale DVC listings that are available, you’ll notice prices vary depending on a few things. Each price per point varies based on the resort for starters. Then overall pricing depends on the number of points on the contract, the number of points available and more. It’s also common to see contracts with a higher point value cost less per point. Then comes the negotiating. Unlike when buying direct from Disney, there can be room to negotiate on the resale DVC market, especially when it comes to bigger contracts.
When you buy resale DVC, the closing costs are still fixed but there is the opportunity to negotiate who pays them. Typically the buyer pays the closing costs and dues on any available points for the current year. It is possible to negotiate on this with the seller and/or finding a solution that works for all with lending.
