Can You Sell a Portion of Your DVC Points?

Perhaps the amount of points you purchased suited you perfectly at the time but now it feels like you have more DVC points than you need or use. At one time you went to Walt Disney World all the time. Now maybe you still love your annual visits but take quick trips to visit the kids in college rather than magical weekend getaways. Maybe the annual dues are a lot and you’d rather spend some of that money elsewhere. Whatever the reason, you’re interested in owning a smaller amount of points. You want to sell Disney points but just some. So can you sell a portion of your DVC points? Because of the way timeshares work, unfortunately the answer is no. You must sell DVC contract in its entirety.

If you own multiple contracts, you can sell just one. This makes it easier to sell DVC membership and manage your timeshare in a way that aligns with your vacation habits. This is why some members prefer to own multiple, smaller contracts instead of one larger one. You can sell DVC points off if and when it benefits you.

Owner and DVC expert Chris Myers shares, ‘When working at Disney Vacation Club if someone wanted 1000 points, we would recommend splitting their purchase into four 250 point contracts. Also, if someone has three kids, they may want to purchase three similar contracts so that one can be passed on to each child in the future.’

Here is Disney Vacation Club’s official answer on the topic:

Q: Do I have to sell my entire Membership or can I sell part of my Vacation Points?

A. Your Membership is a deeded real estate interest that is undividable. If you own multiple Memberships, each one may be sold separately.

For example, let’s say you own a Membership at Disney’s Beach Club Villas and an additional Membership at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. You may sell each one separately or both together.’
