There’s a lot to know when it comes to using your Disney Vacation Club points. Sometimes you’re booking your regular, annual vacation. Other times, you may want to travel with family or friends. Can someone else use your Disney Vacation Club points? Yes, there are a few different ways for someone else to use your points. One way is to transfer Disney Vacation Club points to the account of another Member. This makes booking bigger rooms together easy. This is also a way to gift your points to someone you know. Let’s go over the specifics and some updates to the policy.

How Does Transferring Disney Vacation Club Points Work?

It’s possible to transfer your DVC points to another Member or have them transferred to you. Both accounts must be in good standing meaning dues have been paid, loans are up to date and such. Transferred points expire at the end of the transferring Member’s use year unless they are banked or borrowed. Many people will be transferring points with specific plans in mind but it is good to know when they might expire. If banked, transferred points will expire at the end of the transferring Member’s use year.

Who pays annual dues if you transfer DVC points?

Even if you transfer annual dues to a friend or family Member, you’re still responsible for the annual dues.

Can you transfer banked DVC points?

In revisions dated December of 2024, Disney updated some of the terms of transferring points. You can now transfer your points in new ways. Disney says this specifically in the terms:

  • Allotted, Banked, Borrowed, Reservation, and Holding Home Resort Vacation Points may be Transferred.

This opens up planning doors, giving Members more flexibility. If you want to stay in bigger accommodations together or visit at a pricier time of year, you now have more options to do so.

Let’s say you planned to visit one year but weren’t able to and banked your points instead. If you’re unable to use those points you are now able to transfer them to the account of someone you know.

Can you return transferred DVC points to the original use year?

This is the same as when any points are banked are borrowed. You can’t undo it. Transferred points that have been banked or borrowed can not be returned to their original use year.

Can you transfer DVC points back to the owner?

DVC point transfers are final. Points can not be transferred back to the original owner once transferred.

Do you transfer DVC points when you rent them out?

While it is possible to rent out your DVC points, you are not able to rent out transfer points. Transfer points can only be used by someone you know, not for compensation.

How many times can you transfer DVC points?

You’ll want to plan this out ahead of time because Disney says, “During a given Use Year, only one (1) Transfer per Club Member or Club membership, either as Transferee or Transferor, will be permitted, unless the transfer is for the sole purpose of booking an External Exchange reservation and the Home Resort Vacation Points are being immediately used to complete the reservation.” You can only participate in a DVC point transfer once per use year.
