Since Disney World opened in 1971, we’ve seen many new rides debut over the years. Magic Kingdom is the original Disney theme park in Orlando, Florida. It has many more attractions now than when it opened. More are on the way. The Cars Disney World addition was announced in August of 2024. It will be years before we see it open. Where will the Cars rides go at Magic Kingdom?
The Cars ride Magic Kingdom is getting will be in Frontierland. There are actually two Cars attractions coming to the park. It’s a massive addition. While Disney calls it an expansion, it will actually replace some current attractions.
Is Cars replacing the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom?
Yes, based on what Disney has shared we can assume Cars is replacing the Rivers of America section of the park. This includes Tom Sawyer Island as well. This is the lake that’s next to the Haunted Mansion and goes around the park all the way to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
What the Magic Kingdom Cars Land Concept Art Shows Us
In the concept art for the new Cars Magic Kingdom area, it looks like it’s a land within a land. It’s in Frontierland but probably in a closed off kind of way. We can see some a large mountain region that looks like it will back right up to the Liberty Tree Tavern part of the Frontierland.
Cars Ride Disney Opening Date
The Cars ride in Orlando probably won’t be open for many years. Disney leadership said this group of announcements would be getting started different times in the next five years. The Disney tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom is supposed to open in 2027 and that seems ambitious. Cars at Magic Kingdom probably won’t be a reality until later than that.
What is the Cars ride at Magic Kingdom?
The Cars ride Magic Kingdom will have is different than the Disney California Adventure ride. The Magic Kingdom Cars land in Frontierland is not Radiator Springs. There is an attraction that looks similar to Radiator Springs Racers but explores different terrains. There is also an attraction that looks like it could be another Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree style attraction. If you’ve been on, or seen, the Alien Swirling Saucers ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s the same style of rotating ride vehicles that whip guests around.

What is the Cars ride at Hollywood Studios?
There is a Cars ride at Hollywood Studios but it’s not really a ride. The attraction is called Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. It’s not a ride but actually the character’s “state-of-the-art racing simulator” on a wraparound screen.
