Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas provide an experience that brings the enchantment of O’ahu together with Disney quality, characters, theming and service. Disney Vacation Club can be pricey but the overall value is incredible compared to renting a room. There are ways to make DVC more affordable, especially at Aulani. Considering resale DVC can save you thousands. Aulani is also a unique resort in that there may be a way to pay less on annual dues. An Aulani subsidized contract has lower annual dues, also referred to as maintenance fees, than other Aulani contracts. What are Aulani subsidized dues about? How does an Aulani subsidized contract work? Let’s go over the benefits of a subsidized Aulani contract, detail the savings, discuss what they are and why they exist.

Why do Aulani subsidized contracts exist?

Back when Aulani opened in 2011, an accounting error provided the earliest Disney Vacation Club buyers at the property with incorrect information. Disney made this initial error right by promising a credit in the form of a subsidy that would lower the annual dues for the duration of the contract. Those who bought DVC at Aulani after this initial finding pay a higher rate for annual dues.

Note the subsidy is different and separate from the Transient Tax paid on stays at Aulani. All guests and DVC Members pay this during their stays at Aulani. Guests of other hotels on the island pay this as well.

Aulani Subsidized Dues vs Other Aulani Contracts

Disney Vacation Club Members with a subsidized contract at Aulani pay a lower number per point for annual dues every year. You can not buy one of these contracts from Disney directly. Contracts with Aulani subsidized dues must be purchased from a Member who is selling theirs. A new Member buying points at Aulani will pay the full annual dues rate per point.

Annual dues per point for normal contracts at Aulani in 2023 are $9.14

Annual dues per point for Aulani subsidized contracts in 2023 are $6.87.

That’s $2.27 difference per point in savings. Members who own a 100 point subsidized contract at Aulani would save $227 less per year. Those who qualify for the subsidy with a 150 point contract would pay $340.50 less based on these numbers. This will change each year as the amount of dues per point changes.

Aulani Maintenance Fees 2023 and Beyond

Both subsidized and regular Aulani annual dues rise. For example, the DVC maintenance fees 2023 change brought both contracts up. The maintenance fees go up at Disney Vacation Club resorts as inflation rises, Cast Member benefits change and different refurbishments need to take place among other reasons. Proposed annual dues are released each year at the annual meeting of the board of directors and Members which takes place at the end of the year.

Other Benefits of a Subsidized Aulani Contract

Lower dues is an exciting benefit of buying a subsidized Aulani resale contract but that’s not all. Compared to a regular contract, this can save you a decent amount over the duration of the Membership. Aulani contracts expire January 31st of 2062.

Having the eleven month out home resort booking advantage at Aulani can be incredibly helpful. We can assume nearly all visiting Members have to travel quite a way to get to the Hawaiian island of O’ahu. This might require more planning further out.

What’s nice about buying Disney Vacation Club at Aulani is that it’s one of the original fourteen home resorts. With the way Disney Vacation Club currently works, Members who purchase resale at Aulani can use their points at any of the other original resorts based on availability.
