Magic Bands in Short Supply

Magic Bands in Short Supply

Magic Bands (aka Disney Bands or MagicBands) have been sprinkling pixie dust on DVC Vacations since 2013, and we’re obsessed. Disney is now announcing to its DVC members and guests that its beloved Magic Bands are in short supply and may not be available for purchase once checked in at one’s DVC Resort. The limited supply issue is predictably another pandemic supply shortage, with the same hang ups that are delaying Disney’s newest cruise ship, Wish. While supplies are short everywhere on many items nationwide, this can still be frustrating for DVC Members.

The Magic Band, while getting a new one each trip, is a favorite family tradition, and provides many magical benefits. The waterproof bands have an RF chip inside, which is the same technology used in remotes, video controllers, and keyless car starters. The Magic Band technology benefits include:

*Unlocking your DVC resort room

*Entering theme parks with park ticket confirmation

*Accessing your Lightning Lane reservations

*Charging merchandise and souvenir purchases and dining back to your DVC resort.

*Redeeming Disney Dining Plan credits

*Adding Disney PhotoPass pictures to your account

For those of you who don’t remember, up until 2021, Disney Magic Bands were included with your DVC resort reservations, and could either be shipped to your home before or picked up upon resort check-in. After 2021, they became available for purchase. And as of this week, they are now in high demand and short supply.

Disney is suggesting guests purchase their Magic Bands before checking into their DVC resort due to limited supplies. Currently, on the shopDisney website, there are only three magic bands and two slap bracelets to choose from. It is rare that there are more parks than Magic Bands selection. You can purchase a Magic Band from a third party website (the word Amazon pops into everyone’s mind), but like that generic iPhone lighting cord you bought that worked for five minutes, that’s the fear of buying a Magic Band from anywhere but an official Disney retailer. Another option is to reuse a Magic Band from a previous DVC trip, which you can gain access to and reactivate using the My Disney Experience App. In short, there are so many options, just not so many Disney Magic Bands! So, order your Magic Band for your DVC Vacation now on shopDisney, or head to the garage and find the ones from your last DVC adventure.
