Old Key West Resort at Walt Disney World is the original Disney Vacation Club resort. It actually opened in 1991 with the name Disney’s Vacation Club Resort. The Key West theme is carried through the property with a pastel aesthetic and natural Florida charm. There are also nods to the timeshare aspect throughout Old Key West. One of the most notable being the Disney Vacation Club Family Album photo walls at the entrance of and inside Olivia’s Cafe.

There have been quite a few refurbishments and updates around Disney World after the closure and in preparation for the big anniversary. (See our guide to the Walt Disney World 50th anniversary celebration for more updates and all there is to see, do and eat for that!) This included an Old Key West lobby refurbishment that freshened up the space that welcomes guests. The entrance, amenities and main area of this resort are quaint and convenient to navigate with the lobby, or Hospitality House as it’s called, pulling it all together. Let’s take a look at the new Old Key West lobby.

The first impression is how much brighter the space is. The darker woods have been replaced by bright, white trims, light linens and happy teal-ish blue hues on the walls. There are pops of tropical colors and it definitely feels inspired by Florida and the beach.
This unique corner has a stylish seating area with a cabana style curtain overhang.

The decor feels fresh and coastal but still has the personal, homey touches of antique books and lamps. There are actually some interesting pieces on the library wall. A weathered plaque that says ‘For Your Reading Enjoyment While in Papa’s Den’ remains. The Old Key West lobby refurbishment changed a lot but held on to some nostalgia.

Disney has started to introduce a new style of check in desk at some resorts. What used to be one long counter is now a collection of smaller desks for cast members to help guests individually. This choice of furniture style could be seen as a way to provide service that feels more personal but it definitely opens up the room.

The Old Key West lobby is certainly one of the coziest with ample seating of all kinds. The oversized couches really say, ‘welcome home.’ The library room in the lobby kind of feels like your stylish, modern Floridian Aunt’s living room. This area has plenty of places to sit comfortably when you’re waiting to check in or receive assistance at the front desk. If you have extended time to spend, like waiting a while for your airport shuttle to arrive, you can definitely find a place to relax here.

The refurbished Old Key West lobby now matches the outdoor entrance corridor which is also a bright blue-ish with white trim.
