Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a gorgeous resort designed in a national park lodge theme. DVC Resale Pros and Cons: Copper Creek Edition

Pros of Disney’s Copper Creek Villas and Cabins

There’s a lot to love about this popular resort.

Copper Creek has many DVC villa styles to choose from.

Only a few Disney Vacation Club resorts have private accommodations like the Copper Creek cabins. These full, individual cabin villas are beautifully placed on the shores of Bay Lake with fabulous nature views. Though the view is not something you can book specifically, you may be able to spot fireworks from some of the cabins and some of the higher up rooms in other styles as well. All of the rooms are in a modern, sophisticated style that pays homage to natural textures and color stories. At Copper Creek you can choose from:

  • Deluxe Studios
  • One Bedroom Villas
  • Two Bedroom Villas
  • Three Bedroom Grand Villas
  • Two Bedroom Cabins

The dining options at Wilderness Lodge are a major pro.

When the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins opened, a new restaurant debuted at the resort as well. That’s Geyser Point Bar and Grill which sits on Bay Lake, overlooking the serene setting. This outdoor, covered space has a full bar and a great food menu along with a quick service window nearby.

Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White is a more recent addition as well. Guests can meet the original Disney Princess, the Evil Queen and Dopey and Grumpy at this enchanted forest themed meal. Having one of the Disney character meals at your resort is such a nice amenity.

See more about the restaurants at this resort in our Wilderness Lodge restaurants and dining guide.

Wilderness Lodge has a great holiday display in the main lobby and DVC building.

During the holidays, you’ll love what you see in the lobby at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Sit by the fire and relax. With one of the tallest trees at Disney World, Wilderness Lodge dazzles guests throughout the holiday season. The Wilderness Lodge Christmas tree fills the tall lobby and is covered with ornaments in natural textures.

While the majority of Copper Creek’s rooms are connected to the main lobby, the Boulder Ridge DVC building is just next door. This has one of the best DVC resort Christmas displays. The lights and garlands fill the tall, circular entry way of the Boulder Ridge building. This architecture is gorgeous year round and the Christmas magic just does something special to it. It feels like a Hallmark movie. You’ll want to stop by the Carolwood Pacific Room, where Walt Disney’s love of trains is celebrated, too.

Copper Creek has a lot of time left on the deed.

The amount of time left on a Disney Vacation Club contract depends on when the resort opened. Copper Creek Villas and Cabins opened in 2017. It expires in 2068. That’s decades of vacations to take! Because it has so much time left, the annual dues are reasonable at $8.09 in 2024 and the resale per point prices are moderate. Copper Creek is often the best value option. You can usually get the most for your money here.

Copper Creek is one of the original fourteen DVC resorts.

The opening date of the DVC resort also determines what’s possible with the contract when you buy DVC resale. Purchasing Disney Vacation Club points on the DVC resale market makes it possible to save thousands compared to buying from Disney directly. The one thing to know is that there are some restrictions with resale. Some DVC resorts have more resale restrictions than others. When you buy resale at one of the original 14 DVC resorts you are able to use your points to stay at any of the other properties in that category based on availability. If you were to buy at a newer resort, like Disney’s Riviera Resort, this would not be the case. You can only use resale points at your home resort when you buy resale at Riviera. This is another pro of owning DVC resale at Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort.

Cons of Disney’s Copper Creek Villas and Cabins

Every resort has a little something that could be better or doesn’t meet your needs. Here are some things to think about with Copper Creek DVC resale.

Copper Creek is a Magic Kingdom area resort but not on the monorail.

There are many resorts that are not on the monorail but this is the only Magic Kingdom area resort that isn’t. That means you’ll have to take a boat to get to Magic Kingdom. You don’t have access to the monorail at Wilderness Lodge. You’d have to go to one of the monorail loop resorts and transfer to take it to Epcot. This seems like a lot of extra work. You’re probably better off just taking the bus. If special transportation to the parks is important to you, consider your Wilderness Lodge options. You can take a boat to Magic Kingdom and a bus everywhere else.

Copper Creek Villas and Cabins rooms are in the main hotel building.

Some people might like the convenience of where the Copper Creek rooms are located. However, if you’re wanting an exclusive feeling Disney Vacation Club experience, this may not be a good fit. Over at Bay Lake Tower, there is an entire private DVC building with a secluded pool. If you like this idea, know that Copper Creek is pretty different. The cabins are quiet and private but the other Copper Creek villas are located off of the main lobby in the wing next to the resort gift shop. This is different from Boulder Ridge Villas, the other DVC home resort at this property, which has its own building and lobby.

It is convenient to be close to the main lobby at Wilderness Lodge. The rooms mostly overlook the pool behind the lobby or the pool behind the Boulder Ridge building. You just might feel like you’re staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge in general without a special DVC lobby of your own at Copper Creek. This is a personal preference to consider.

This rustic Copper Creek theme isn’t for everyone.

Modern national park lodge or farmhouse vibes are a very specific taste and not for everyone. Disney does it beautifully but if you’re excited for tropical scenes and Florida palm trees, Copper Creek might not be your vibe. The villas are bright inside but still follow the wood heavy wilderness theme. Overall, the Pacific North West aesthetic is very rich at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This won’t be for everyone and that’s ok! If the theme of Wilderness Lodge doesn’t make your heart sing there are plenty of other resorts to consider.

There are no firework or theme park view rooms.

Views can be important to some vacationers. With DVC point charts, you’re able to see what kind of rooms are available at each resort. Copper Creek Villas and Cabins has no special category of points to book a room to get a guaranteed firework view. You may be surprised with an obstructed or partial firework view from some top floor villa balconies. Your best bet, though, will be to watch fireworks from Wilderness Lodge in one of the spots mentioned in our guide.
