There’s a lot to know about runDisney races. Each race weekend is a little different. The race courses and where you run differ depending on the race and distance. You can also take a challenge and run multiple events!

Can anyone sign up for runDisney?
Yes, anyone can sign up for a runDisney race. The races are sold online and sell out quickly. You do not have to be staying at a Disney resort or anything else to gain access. runDisney race entry is sold to the general public. Some may be eligible to sign up earlier than others, granting them the best chance at the races they want.
What do you get when you run a runDisney race?
When you sign up for a runDisney race, you get some pretty neat stuff. When you arrive for race weekend, one thing you’ll need to plan for is a visit to the race expo. This is the location where your race goodies are handed out. This is also where you can shop for runDisney race weekend merchandise available for purchase.
runDisney provides a bib and safety pins
As with any race, when you pick up your packet you will get a bib with a number on it. This is what you wear during the race. It shows that you are a participant but also serves as a source of identification. You will want to to strategically wear your bib so that it’s always visible. Along the course there will be photographers and your race photos will be found using your bib number. If it’s blocked, you will miss out on your photos. Safety pins are provided to attach your bib to your shirt or costume.
races come with a runDisney shirt
Every participant gets a race shirt that has art specific to that event and race length. You tell Disney your size when signing up for the race. The shirt provided is usually a tech, or athletic, shirt. They are short sleeve shirts for most races but the marathon weekend shirts usually have long sleeves.
a bag or backpack
Usually all of your race goodies come in some kind of varying bag or backpack. When you pick up your packet, in the bag you may also find some papers like ads, coupons, a map of the course or other important information you need to know.
runDisney races have cute medals
Of course, when you finish your race, people will be there handing out medals. The runDisney medals are really fun and themed. You don’t see the medal design when you sign up for a race. Disney makes a whole thing of it and releases images of the race weekend medals as the event approaches.
Does everyone that runs the race get a runDisney medal?
There are enough medals for everyone who runs a runDisney race to get one. You don’t have to worry that they will run out. The medals are part of the draw for a lot of people. It’s a great souvenir. Some medals have interactive elements, many have glitter, some have characters on them. runDisney race medals are usually themed to the specific race weekend and distance in particular. The 5K medals are sometimes a little more playful than the long distances. The 10K, half marathon and marathon all have chunky, shiny medals.
Is there water at a runDisney race?
There are always cups of water on the runDisney race courses. It’s especially important to hydrate during the longer distances. Some runners do wear hydration devices, like backpacks with a sipper straw, but most take the cups of water provided on the course. For the longer distances, like half marathons and full marathons, there is usually a sports drink handed out at some drink stations as well.
Do people dress up for runDisney events?
Yes, many people dress up for runDisney races. For the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend especially, you will see a sea of pink, tulle and glitter on the race course. For other themed races, many participants dress up to match the characters featured at that event. You’ll find lots of good obscure Disney Parks references on the runDisney race course too. People like to have fun at these.
As a best practice, you should always take your costume for a test run before the race. The most comfortable runDisney race costumes are built around tried and tested running gear. For example, many will wear a tutu over their favorite running shorts.
What is the runDisney Goofy Challenge?
The Goofy challenge includes a multi-day series of runDisney events. Running the Goofy is great for those who have run a long distance race before and are looking for an increase in difficulty.

Can you do runDisney events without training?
Hydration and nutrition are always important with long distance runDisney events. The Goofy and Dopey bring it to a new level! You have to plan race meals for multiple days and be eating for recovery and energy as you finish one race and prepare for the next. The amount of training needed depends on the distance.
What is the runDisney Springtime Surprise?
This is a race weekend at Disney World in Orlando that has a different theme every year. In 2024, there is a Neverland themed 5K, an Up themed 10K, an Hakuna Matata 10 miler and a Stitch themed challenge.
