One of the highlights of Disney Vacation Club, also called DVC, is the amount of choice you have. You’ve got options when you buy DVC and can tailor your experience based on how you like to travel. You can choose how many points you buy, which property is your home resort and what kind of accommodations you stay in every visit. So what are the best options for DVC resale? That depends on what you want as a Member and vacationer. Which DVC resale contracts are the cheapest? Pricing is always important and contracts at different resorts have a different amount of time left. Which DVC resorts have the most time left on their contracts when you buy DVC resale? Which DVC resorts are closest to the parks? If location is a priority for you, we’ll go over some key pieces of information.
We cover it all here so you can consider lots of different details and choose the best options for you.
Buy DVC Resale: Which option is the best for you?
Every DVC home resort has something exciting to offer. To find the best options for DVC resale for you, consider price, location, theming and if the resort has resale restrictions.
DVC Resale Restrictions: Choosing Your Best Option
Something to consider with resale DVC options specifically is if you care about staying at DVC resorts other than your home resort. The reason being is that there are a few resorts with resale restrictions. You can avoid some DVC resale restrictions by buying at one of the original 14 DVC resorts. That means everything built before Disney’s Riviera Resort. Riviera came along and a new set of rules were introduced. If one of the reasons you want to buy DVC is the option to stay at other resorts, you will want to avoid resale at the resorts with strict resale restrictions.
Those who buy DVC at Disney’s Riviera Resort, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, The Cabins at Fort Wilderness or properties built after these must stay at their home resort when booking with resale points. Also, those who buy resale at the original 14 can not book at these newer properties using their points. However, Members with one of the original 14 properties as their home resort can book with resale points at the rest of the original 14 based on availability.
DVC Resorts with the Most Time Left on Contracts
The length of a DVC contract is always an interesting topic. How long will your contract last? How many trips will you get to take with it? Many people are used to hearing that DVC lasts fifty years. This can be true. However, not all contracts are fifty years long. Most DVC resorts debut with fifty year long contracts. That means anyone who purchases at that resort within the first year or so has access to those first fifty years. If someone were to purchase five years after a resort opens, their contract is probably then forty five years long. To put it another way, how long Disney Vacation Club contracts are depends on how long ago a home resort opened. As time passes, there is less time left on a contract.
An exception is Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Members were given the opportunity to extend their contracts by fifteen years at one point. Some Members did and others did not. This is why you’ll see some contracts at Old Key West expire in 2042 and others expire in 2057.
DVC Contract Lengths in Order From Least to Most Time Left
All DVC contracts expire on January 31 of their respective expiration year. The best options for DVC resale of the original 14 home resorts based on length are Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The best options for DVC resale based on length alone overall are Disney’s Riviera Resort and The Villas at Disneyland Hotel. Note when a resort is first built and sold, resale contracts are not as common to come across. As time passes and people decide to sell DVC, we can expect to see more of the recently built properties for sale on the resale market.

It’s nice that you can always sell DVC if your interests change. Maybe when your kids are little you love being close to Bay Lake Tower for early Magic Kingdom mornings. Later in life, Disney’s Riviera Resort and Disney Skyliner rides to Epcot’s World Showcase might be your new dream.
