If you put your hands up on roller coasters and can name all the countries in World Showcase, Disney Vacation Club might be for you. Enjoy Disney trips for years to come and with some special perks too. Resale Disney Vacation Club contracts are available at a much better price but don’t come with all the bells and whistles. For many, the resale DVC prices far outweigh what you miss not buying direct from Disney. So, what are the restrictions on DVC resale? We’ll go over the main categories of restrictions, detail each and touch on why it may not matter to you.
In order to qualify for all of the Disney Vacation Club perks you need a blue Membership Card. These are now digital and found in the My Disney Experience App. It’s how Members verify their DVC status whether it’s blue or not. As of 2021, new Members need to purchase 150 points direct from Disney, not resale, in order to qualify for a blue Membership Card. If you are already eligible and add on resale points, that does not affect your status for discounts and such.
What are the Restrictions on DVC Resale
Events
Disney Vacation Club Members who bought through resale don’t have the option to attend special events hosted by the timeshare company. Disney hosts Member only events at the parks, sometimes requiring a room reservation, and resale alone doesn’t qualify Members to attend.
Why it may not matter: These events have limited capacities, sell out and sometimes require you to have a room reservation adding an extra layer of planning.
Discounts
If you purchase a DVC Membership through resale, you do not get access to Disney Vacation Club discounts. This includes shopping, dining, recreation and tickets.
Why it may not matter: Many Disney fans get similar discounts with a Disney Annual Pass or Disney Chase Visa.
Booking Restrictions
Resale DVC does not give you the option to use points to book special additional Disney vacation options like Disney Cruise Line or Adventures by Disney. Disney’s Riviera Resort is trickiest with booking restrictions. With Riviera as your Home Resort through resale you can only book there. You also can not book at Riviera if you buy resale unless it is your home resort. The other original fourteen Disney Vacation Club Resorts can be freely booked with resale points, based on availability of course.
Why it may not matter: We recommend buying resale DVC points at the resort you want to stay at. The Home Resort eleven month booking advantage is often beneficial. Riviera may be the only resort you want to stay at. If not, buying resale at one of the original fourteen resorts still offers lots of booking flexibility.
