Whether it’s resale or direct, Disney Vacation Club brings joy to families, couples and individuals through years of magical vacations. If you’re considering both, you’re in the right place. The DVC Resale Experts blog has a lot of information comparing the two. So what is the difference between buying DVC from Disney vs resale? Let’s take a look over the details.
What is the difference between buying DVC from Disney vs resale?
The main difference is the price. This is a real plus when buying resale DVC. Each month we share a blog post on average DVC resale pricing. Our most recent is DVC Average Resale Price February 2022.
Let’s compare some current per point prices. In February of 2022, Disney Vacation Club advertised the cost of Membership as starting at $207 per point. This refers to the two resorts Disney is actively selling: Disney’s Riviera Resort and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. Other resort prices will vary but so will Disney Vacation Club’s inventory of them. For example, Disney just raised the price of a few resorts to $200 per point including Disney’s Old Key West Resort. If they have the point amount you want available at Old Key West, that’s the standard price direct from DVC. For resale Old Key West points, a 150 point contract recently sold for $124 per point. Just comparing per point prices, that’s $76 less per point with an estimated total savings of $7600. The savings are significant! And, in our opinion, far outweigh any of the perks or discounts you receive buying direct.
When you purchase Disney Vacation Club from Disney directly there are some added benefits. In order to qualify, new Members would need to purchase 150 points directly from Disney. Compared to resale, that would cost substantially more, likely thousands more. It’s good to note you’re not eligible for all of the perks and extras when you buy resale. Discounts and Member Events aren’t part of the resale fun but you may already have the Annual Passholder discounts in your pocket and the two aren’t stackable. Members who qualify for all perks are also able to book at any DVC resort with their points. With resale, there are booking restrictions. The most notable being, if you buy resale at Riviera you can only use those points to book there. If you buy resale at another resort, you can not book at Riviera.
Unfortunately, access to the DVC Member lounge at Epcot and Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower is not available to those who buy resale. Upon reopening after years of being closed, the swanky Top of the World Lounge was designated for those who have access to all Member Extras only. However, resale DVC Members do receive free resort parking which would otherwise cost $25.00 per night at Deluxe resorts.
