The popularity of Disney Parks can often mean long lines. Over the years, Disney has introduced multiple options to help guests enjoy lower wait times or skip the line. When a new ride opens at Disney Parks, there is a system in place to make the line more manageable. Virtual queues are a newer offering, helping to reduce the amount of time visitors spend in line for the most popular rides. There are pros and cons to the virtual queue system at Disney World. Whether you like it or not can depend on how you like to plan, or not plan, your days in the parks. What are the Disney World virtual queue rides right now?
Which Disney World Rides Have Virtual Queues?
There are no virtual queues in use at Disney World at this time.
As of February 25, 2025, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World Resort no longer use a virtual queue.
Instead you can experience attractions using one of the following options depending on what each one offers:
- Standby queue – walk up and wait in line
- Lightning Lane – a skip the line style paid offering with a separate entrance
There are a few different ways to use Lightning Lane depending on the attraction.
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass – allows you to enjoy reduced waits at multiple attractions
- Lightning Lane Single Pass – allows you to enjoy a reduced wait at one attraction
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass – allows you to enjoy reduced waits at all attractions with Lightning Lane in one park, one time each, without selecting a return time
Pros and Cons of Disney World Virtual Queue Rides
Always check at the time of your visit but most Disney World virtual queue rides use the same procedure to get in the digital line.
- On the day of your visit, you’ll ideally have the My Disney Experience app open and ready to go, signed in with all members of your party connected, at 7:00 a.m.
- For easy access, navigate to the three lines icon on the bottom left of the app, scroll down to My Visit and select Virtual Queue.
- From there, you are given options to join when there are attractions with virtual queues available.
- You’re assigned a Boarding Group and then need to keep up on which groups have been called throughout the day to see when you are able to ride.
Sometimes, attractions will have an additional chance to sign up for a Virtual Queue at 1:00 p.m. It varies by attraction so as these may become available you’ll want to review the latest information.
Using a Disney World virtual queue might sound exciting and it can be when you’re able to get a return time. Unfortunately, many visitors have had challenges getting a Boarding Group over the years. Popular attractions, like Rise of the Resistance, would be distributed almost instantly. Lightning Lanes can also sell out for attractions using a virtual queue. If you didn’t get one these two options, there wasn’t a way to ride. When virtual queues are offered, it’s possible that you could travel all the way to Orlando and not be able to ride an attraction at all. Even if the line is long, standby queues at least let you decide if you want to wait or not.
Virtual Queue vs Lightning Lane: How are they different?
What’s the difference between virtual queue and Lightning Lane at Disney? The important difference for many is that the virtual queue is included with your park ticket and the Lightning Lane options come at an additional cost.
Virtual queue and Lightning Lane also operate completely differently at Disney.
Getting a virtual queue return time is different than using a Lightning Lane. The virtual queue gives you a Boarding Group and anticipated wait for when to get in the general line for an attraction. It can change throughout out the day. There is no guarantee for it to be a short wait from that point.
Disney World virtual queue rides usually have the option to purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass in addition to or instead of using the virtual queue. Basically, the virtual queue is there instead of the standby line.
The whole point of the Lightning Lane is that it should provide a shorter wait for an attraction.
Which Disney rides have Lightning Lane Single Pass?
Just a handful of Disney’s most popular rides offer the Lightning Lane Single Pass option.
Disney World Theme Park | Lightning Lane Single Pass |
Magic Kingdom | Seven Dwarfs Mine Train TRON Lightcycle / Run |
Epcot | Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind |
Hollywood Studios | Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance |
Animal Kingdom | Avatar Flight of Passage |
There are many more attractions that offer shorter waits when you purchase the Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass.
