For those considering joining Disney Vacation Club, there’s a lot to think about. It’s good to be familiar with how it all works. While many people think about the price first, the length of a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) contract is also very important when considering value. Not all DVC contracts are 50 years long. They are usually around 50 years in length from when they first open. If you buy a contract years later, your contract still expires at the same time as everyone else’s at that home resort. The first DVC resort expirations are in the year 2042. Which DVC resorts expire in 2042? It’s actually a pretty long list that not only includes the first DVC resort but other popular ones as well.
DVC Resorts That Expire in 2042
How long is Disney Vacation Club membership? That depends on which home resort you choose to buy from. While Disney Vacation Club is actively selling just a few resorts at any time, it’s possible to buy at any resort you want. Resale DVC can be more transparent for shoppers with all of the options, prices, point values and other details listed right in front of you.
Whether you buy resale or directly from Disney Vacation Club, the DVC resort deed expirations are the same.
A shorter contract length may be better for some people depending on their plans and preferences. Most importantly, if there’s a resort you want to stay at the most, you will want to choose that as your home resort despite when it expires.
For example, Disney’s Beach Club Villas is on the 2042 expiration list. Beach Club is a very popular resort because of its relaxed, coastal theme, phenomenal pool area and close proximity to Epcot. Don’t let a contract expiring in 2042 stop you from buying at your favorite resort. The home resort booking advantage lets you book an additional four months ahead of other Members.
Disney’s Old Key West Resort expires in 2042 (or 2057)
This first one is tricky. As the original Disney Vacation Club resort, Disney’s Old Key West Resort should naturally be the first to expire right? Yes. However, at one point Disney offered Members at this resort the opportunity to extend their contracts. This was something they could opt into individually. Some owners extended their Old Key West contracts by 15 years while others did not. That’s why it’s possible to have either a 2042 or 2057 expiration at this resort.
This is the only Disney Vacation Club resort that has two different expiration dates for contracts.
Even with less time left, you can still find great value here. Old Key West DVC resale contracts can be priced well under $100 per point in price, especially bigger contracts. The more points on a contract, the lower the price will usually be per point. Small contracts usually have higher per point prices.
With such a difference in contract lengths at Old Key West, you might be wondering the price difference between the two lengths. Surprisingly, contracts that expire in 2057 can be very close in price to the 2042 expiring contracts. It depends on the size, market trends and seller.
Disney’s Beach Club Villas expires in 2042
You may love the long walks around Crescent Lake and short walks to Epcot from Disney’s Beach Club Villas. For some, buying at Disney’s Beach Club Villas may be the whole point of joining Disney Vacation Club. The Yacht and Beach Club resorts share a phenomenal pool and water play complex. Watching the fireworks from Beach Club is a nice touch as well.
Disney’s BoardWalk Villas expires in 2042
Right around the corner from the International Gateway back entrance of Epcot is this fabulous home resort. Disney’s BoardWalk Villas opened in 1996, becoming a DVC jewel on the shores of Crescent Lake. BoardWalk’s close proximity to Epcot also makes it a Disney Skyliner resort. With a short walk, you can take a breezy ride to Hollywood Studios on the Skyliner from BoardWalk.
Disney’s BoardWalk Resort had some extensive renovations in the early 2020s. This includes the lobby, rooms and restaurants on the BoardWalk.
Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge expires in 2042
Over near Magic Kingdom, Bay Lake has some charming and rustic accommodations. You can get swept away with two different nature focused home resort choices at Wilderness Lodge. Boulder Ridge is the original DVC home resort at the property. Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge opened in the year 2000. For those looking for a longer contract, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Wilderness Lodge expires much later in 2068.
Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort expires in 2042
Far from any Disney Park, in a quiet town in South Carolina, you’ll find another resort that expires in 2042. You’ll still find special Disney treats like Mickey ice creams and Dole Whip here. Disney’s Hilton Head Island resort opened in 1996. This property is just a quick ride to the beach and is surrounded by quaint, local restaurants.
Disney’s Vero Beach Resort expires in 2042
Also outside of Disney Parks destinations, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is a coastal treasure. This seaside retreat welcomes Members to the Atlantic Ocean for supreme sunrises and turtle conservation learning opportunities.
FAQs
Are all DVC contracts fifty years long?
How long DVC Membership is and when it expires all depends on Disney Vacation Club resorts opening dates. DVC Memberships are usually fifty years long for early buyers. Contract length depends on when you buy. The closer to the resort’s opening you buy, the longer the contract will be.
Can you extend your DVC Membership?
No, you can not extend your DVC Membership. The opportunity to extend DVC contracts was only offered one time and at one resort. Some Members at Disney’s Old Key West Resort chose to extend their contracts by fifteen years when it was offered. We have not seen this happen since.
Is it worth buying a DVC contract that expires in 2042?
Yes, it’s worth it to buy a DVC contract even if it expires in 2042. As long as each stay costs less than the price of booking rooms at these resorts without DVC, these contracts are worth it. These per point prices can be lower than newer resorts with more time remaining before expiration. The real tell to see if it’s worth it is to do the math comparing what a single stay costs to what the cost would be with your DVC resale points.
To research this yourself based on a specific contract, consider the following equation. Find your potential DVC resale contract price. Divide that by the number of years left on the contract. Add the current DVC annual dues. Price out a stay you might book with your annual allotment of points but using the Disney website instead. This will give you rates to compare.
This is a rough estimate because annual dues rise a little bit each year and other factors may need to be included like financing costs. It’s a starting point so you can see what kind of savings is possible with resale DVC.
When do DVC contracts expire?
All DVC contracts expire January 31st of their respective expiration year. All DVC contracts at a home resort expire the same year except for Old Key West which has two different deed expirations. Your Use Year does not play a role in when your contract expires.
Which DVC resort has the least amount of time left? How many DVC resorts expire in 2042?
When looking at the expiration dates of different resorts, you’ll notice the earliest expiration year is 2042. This is actually the year many resorts expire. All are listed above.
What will happen when DVC resorts expire?
While Disney’s Old Key West Resort Members were given the one time opportunity to extend their contracts, that is not the norm. It was decades before the contracts there were set to expire. We don’t know what will happen when DVC resorts expire. Will current Members be given the opportunity to extend? Will Members at DVC home resorts be incentivized to buy a new contract when their contract expires? We will have to wait until the first resorts start expiring in 2042. There’s also a possibility we could see updates before this time period. It seems like resorts could start from scratch and offer 50 year contracts again after their original Memberships expire unless the model changes.
